This is the replacement. I am very sad to see my extremely cute pink Nike's go. But it needed to be done.

I would like to think the Walking Co. that let me use their technology to see how my weight was being distributed on my feet. My left foot is actually flatter than my right foot! They had me try some insoles that were amazing. The only problem is they cost as much as my shoes.
So I decided to see if I could either get much cheaper shoes so I could afford the insoles, or find shoes that didn't need them.

Next I would like to thank Macy's for completely ignoring me for about 10 minutes, but also for not asking any questions about my return when they did finally acknowledge me. Basically a hassle free transaction.

Last, I would like to thank Lady Foot Locker for providing lots of information and being very patient with me as I tried on several pairs of shoes and even ran around their store a bit. Sadly, they had some really cute pink ones, but they didn't have my size and I would have had to wait several days for them to ship to me. I didn't want to have any excuse to miss a workout. So I settled on the purple ones. They look much more pink out of the context of the store and much more pink than the picture makes them look. So I am happy with this choice. I'm going to try them for a week and see if I should go back and get the arch support insoles that she suggested I try with them.

Oh why not?

I try not to post too frequently - like twice a day - because I don't want anyone to stop reading my blog! But I can't help myself. I'm watching the biggest loser. This is dangerous for me because it's so inspiring that I want to get out and do all this crazy stuff to get healthier. I think that what I'm doing is probably sufficient for the time being. However I do have some different things I want to try once I've gotten a bit further with my couch to 5k program. Here's my list so far: Water Aerobics - I started to do this once and I loved it, but then I had a bunch of snafus that prevented me from getting into it regularly. I think that these can be resolved now since we've moved and I got a card for the local parks and rec. Some form of Martial Arts - I did this some as a teenager and I really enjoyed it. Problem is that it's not cheap and it's a bit embarrassing to do as an adult in a beginner class. I'm sure they have classes for t...

If only I had stuck with it

While we were in Los Angeles this last weekend we went to visit Paul's cousin Emily (Hi Emily!), her husband Nick, and their daughter Kate. She had asked me how the exercise was going and I told her that it was hard but I needed to stick it out. We ended up talking about all of the things we've started but quit somewhere along the way. And I started thinking about what it would be like if I'd just stuck to weight watchers or an exercise routine or any of the things I've started that would have had me looking and feeling better by now. There's a book by Malcolm Gladwell called "Outliers". Gladwell talks about a study by Anders Ericsson that shows most people that have mastered a skill have had to spend 10,000 in their life up to that point practicing and working on that skill. I've always considered this relevant to my career but I've never really related it to my weight loss goals. But now I am. If I want to not only improve and succeed at takin...

Wha?! Where do I find this?

I'm watching Kirstie Alley's Big Life which is actually more interesting than I had anticipated. Right now she and a couple of people are riding exercise bikes in a pool! Where do I find this? I want to ride an exercise bike in a pool! Has anyone else done this before? I would also like a swimming buddy to go to water aerobics or to go aqua jogging with me. If I can find a Tuesday evening class to go to with someone I would seriously be excited. Who's in? I NEED a workout partner. I'm tired of trying to do everything alone. I came to the realization this weekend as I read my copy of Shape magazine that I have started to really slip with my exercise routine. Actually, it probably wasn't much of a realization, I pretty much know I'm being a slacker. But I think having a monthly reminder of what I could be doing for myself, like a magazine subscription, would not be a bad thing for relatively little money. There's a great pilates workout in here that I think ...
